SAGAMU CULTISTS: HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY MEMBER, SIX OTHERS IN DSS NET

A member of Ogun State House of Assembly representing Sagamu State Constituency 1, Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed, has been apprehended by security operatives in Ogun State with six suspected cultists, allegedly involved in the violence that erupted in Sagamu.

Having been alleged to have provided shelter to the fleeing cultists, a team of security operatives, in a sting operation after a tip-off, arrested the suspects in the premises of the lawmaker.

According to sources, those arrested include Damilare Bello Mohammed aka DRE, Debbo Animashaun, Bamidele Saheed, Ismaila Onitire, Adewale Otesanya and Tobi Owoade. The Police are presently undergoing interrogation at the Department of State Service (DSS).

Sources revealed that many dangerous weapons, including guns, were recovered from the suspects.

Recall that Hon. Bello was arrested by the DSS for masterminding the violent protest that took place in February this year in Sagamu over the naira redesign policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) vandalized about 10 banks and other public infrastructures.

In a related development, a special court is to be established by the Ogun State Government to try cult-related cases.

Gov. Abiodun said, “Our primary focus was on establishing a special court, forming a joint operational force comprising various security agencies, and implementing a death penalty for cultism offences”.

In another development, the construction of 200 housing units by the Ogun State Government has taken off, with the site for the project being cleared in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government.

To be executed through direct labour, the housing estate will consist of 2 bedroom expandable bungalows, targeting low – and medium-class clients.

The move by the state government, according to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, will add to the housing stock in the state, provide housing solution to the emerging Remo Zone Economic Hub, with the expected influx of workers to the area and complement the state government’s investment in the Gateway Agro-Cargo Airport.
